Fix expected splits when passing data_files or dir #6938

The following code snippet gives an error with v2.19 but not with v2.18:
from datasets import load_dataset

dataset = load_dataset(
    "lvwerra/stack-exchange-paired",
    split="train",
    cache_dir=None,
    data_dir="data/rl",
)

and the error is:
